Log book for Lt D.W. Gay - 10-12 March 1945
This page from Lt. Gay's Log Book covers his flying experiences from 10-12 March 1945.
Operation 23 was an attack on marshalling yards at Zalog, Yugoslavia. The attack leader had to abort because of electrical problems but the attack went ahead. One bomb hung up because of faulty electricals and had to be jettisoned over the Adriatic.
Operation 24 was an attack on a sugar refinary at Pontelongo, rated as a 'Lemon'. The bombs over-shot and fell amongst worker's housings, confirming that 'Lemon' was code for a failed attack.
Many thanks to Martin Hampton, the son in law of Lt. Gay, for sending us this material.
